removal of Conformal coating on a pcb

does anyone know of a way to remove large amounts of conformal coating on a pcb.

    I want to get down to the bare copper in a large area.

    damage to parts is not so much of a concern.

  • If the conformal is silicone, it will need to be mechanically removed. 

    Paintstripper containing methylene chloride is one of the best solvents I've found for removing coatings- beware it will start to attack the epoxy in the laminate as well. And never let it contact your skin- I splashed some on my arm once, gave me a burn in seconds and raised a blister. Heed all warnings.

    You could try a dremel tool with a stiff wire brush to remove the coatings.

    I have always used the old scalpel scraped sideways technique but then I have never need to do a large area.
